MSG, or monosodium glutamate, is used to make cheap quality foods taste better. Unfortunately, since it is such an important additive for the food industry, it has been renamed numerous times so that it can be hidden in processed foods. It has no nutritional value and acts as an excitotoxin in the body. It has been linked to a number of serious health issues including obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, adrenal gland malfunction, and neurological diseases such as Parkinson's to name a few.
An 'excitotoxin', according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is an agent that binds to a nerve cell receptor, stimulates the cell, and damages it or causes its death.
You should feel very fortunate if you are one of the persons that gets migraine headaches when you eat something that contains MSG. Your feedback is immediate and severe, so you are more likely to take this caution to eliminate MSG from your diet seriously.
Learn the common names used on ingredient labels for MSG and do not buy anything that contains these ingredients.
